Configuring Mozilla Thunderbird (Windows) for LMI.net

Mozilla Thunderbird is an excellent free email reader with built-in spam controls. Below are our instructions for setting up Thunderbird for use with your LMi.net email account:

1. Open Thunderbird. If this is your first time using the program, you may see an "Import Wizard", which you can cancel out of. If you see an "Account Wizard", skip to step 3 below. If the windows you see don't exactly correspond with these instructions, you can skip through the steps below for guidance.

2. In the Tools Menu, select "Account Settings". Then, in the "Account Settings" window that pops up, click the "Add Account..." button.

3. In the "Account Wizard" window, under "Select the type of account you would like to set up:", pick Email Account, and click Next.

4. Enter your name (i.e. "Frank Bucuzzi"), and email address (i.e. "frankb@lmi.net"), then click Next. The type of incoming mail server is "POP". The name of the incoming server is "pop.lmi.net". Leave the "Use Global Inbox" button checked. The outgoing server is "smtp.lmi.net". (NOTE: You can only use our smtp server if you are connecting to the internet via LMI. If you use another ISP (such as SBC or Comcast), you will need to use their SMTP server address instead of "smtp.lmi.net".) Click Next.

5. Your incoming and outgoing username will be the same as your actual login name on our server. This is the same as your email address, but without the "@lmi.net". Confirm these are correct then click Next.

6. For the Account Name, use "pop.lmi.net" or any name you like, then click Next. That's it! Now click finish and you are done. You may want to explore other options in Thunderbird by selecting "Options" from the Tools menu. If you need to make any changes in the future, you can again open the Accounts window and view or change settings therein.
