Mac Web Site Authoring Launch Pad

How to Transfer Your HTML Files for Your Web Site
Mac Users - FETCH

Wherever you see "your_login", substitute your own login name (NOT your entire e -mail address!)

1) Connect as normal with Config PPP/PPP/Remote Access.

2) Open Fetch.

3) Under the File menu, select "New Connection". Fill in the following:
Machine: <machine>lmi.net [NOTE: When your account is set up we will let you know which machine your pages are hosted on (i.e. kato.lmi.net, or happy.lmi.net , or blackbass.lmi.net, etc.)]
Username: your_login
Password: your_password
Path: (leave blank)

Then hit the "Okay" button

4) You will get a listing of your own directory (/usr/home/your_login). In that directory you will see a directory called www. In that directory is another dire ctory called docs. In the docs directory is where you should put your HTML files and graphics.

5) Now you can upload your HTML and GIF files to your www directory. Name your home page "index.html" so it will load by default. If you are using System 7.5 or later, you can just drag files from your own desktop right into the Fetch window, into your www directory. Otherwise, use the "Put File" co mmand.
6) Your URL will be: http://www.(your-domain-name) (i.e. http://www.company.com)

Important notes about file naming conventions: All files names are case-sensitive under Unix. Index.html is NOT the same as index.html. Standard co nvention is to use all lowercase file names. All HTML files _must_ have the exte nsion ".html" or ".htm" at the end for them to work. Also, if you are authoring on your Mac locally, remember not to use spaces in file or folder names--UNIX can't handle that, so it would not work once you t ransfer the files.
