SpamGauntlet
LMi.net is now using a Barracuda spam and virus firewall in our network to provide advanced spam and virus blocking service for customers with their own domain name.
Is your mailbox cluttered with junk mail? SpamGauntlet will catch most incoming spam before it reaches your inbox, saving you time and reducing aggravation.
How It Works
Each mailbox will receive a daily (or less frequent if you wish) report showing all messages that have been quarantined. You can select individual messages right from this email and have them delivered to your mailbox if you wish.
In addition, each user has their own web-based control panel, so you can view all quarantined messages, as well as add to a personal white or block list.
You can use SpamGauntlet even if your email isn’t coming through LMi, and we’re happy to assist you in making the requisite changes to your mail setup.
Pricing
SpamGauntlet service costs just $2 per mailbox, per month, with a one-time $10 setup fee per domain.
Each email address can have multiple aliases associated with it, so if “sales@” and “info@” go to the same mailbox, that counts as only one mailbox.

Mailbox
LMi.net offers basic email service in the form of POP/IMAP mailboxes that are accessed from your personal computer. LMi.net email is compatible with all popular PC and Macintosh email programs, such as Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and Outlook Express. For Unix & Linux users, LMi.net also offers shell access to your email account via pine or other Unix mail programs.
When you are not at your computer LMi.net provdes a webmail interface to read new email on the road.
An LMi.net email account is supplied free in conjunction with all Phiber and DSL accounts. Your email address will be “yourname@lmi.net,” and may also be aliased to a customized domain name email address. Most of LMi.net’s web hosting plans also package multiple email boxes.
Mailing List Management
LMI.net offers web-based mailing lists for discussion, announcements, or whatever your heart desires. We use an open-source, python-based software suite, Mailman for our mailing lists. Unlike Majordomo, Mailman is easy to manage, and doesn’t require the semi-divine intervention of some grumpy admin to change simple options. In fact, your Mailman list is configurable directly from the web, by you, with easy-to-comprehend options, each of which comes with a link that, if followed, explains the purpose of said option. And as if that weren’t enough, each list member has a configurable profile (with a look and feel you, the list owner, can set, if you so desire), set in a very similar manner. Mailman is a powerful list server, and LMI is proud to offer it.
List Types:
Announce
Announce lists are broadcast-only. The owner/admin sends out announcements to the list. This is the kind of list a band or organization needs to tell people about upcoming events, sales, etc..
Discussion
In a discussion list, every member can participate. These usually center around a common topic – hobbies, arts, whatever. These lists are more expensive than announce lists since they tend to generate more traffic.

Support
Mailman has concise, friendly documentation. All options for a mailing list can be found on your administrative web page, each with an explanation that can be read by clicking “Details for (option)”. Additionally Mailman has a user and admin manual, as well as more than one set of FAQ’s. On account of the ample documentation, and because Mailman is an extremely flexible listserv with many options, LMI can provide only initial support to get you up and running, with additional support afterward for solving bugs and service issues. After a certain point, however, we must charge for additional basic support at the rate of $50/hour.

MX Backup
If you run your own mail server, it’s good advice to always have a backup mail server at the ready in case your mail server experiences an outage. But there’s no need to purchase and configure an additional mail server – LMi.net can provide this MX (Mail eXchange) backup service.
We’ll list our mail server as the secondary MX in your DNS zone file. Then if your server experiences an outage, all the mail for your domain will spool up on our backup server. Our server will attempt to contact your server at regular intervals. Once your server is back online, our server will deliver all the spooled mail to your server. Your mail does not bounce (“return to sender”) unless your mail server is down for more than 5 days.
MX Backup services are $20/month per domain name. Please write to service@lmi.net and request MX backup for your domain if you need this service.
